Wayfair Furniture Review: Must Knows Before You Shop

Wayfair is one of the largest online retailers of furniture and certainly one of the most popular! I have shopped here countless times and continue to be impressed by their products.

In this Wayfair furniture review, I wanted to inspect some of the most commonly asked questions people have about them and hopefully clarify any doubts about shopping here.

Let’s jump right in!

By the way, here are a few reviews you might also be interested in:

When did Wayfair furniture begin? Is Wayfair legit?

Wayfair was started back in August 2002 and has today grown into a household name in the United States and Canada.

As of recent times, they employ over 2000 staff across their locations and exceeded $13 billion in revenue in 2021.

Also to note is that they are listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: W) too.

So yes, Wayfair is pretty legit!

What kind of furniture does Wayfair offer?

Being one of the largest online stores you can find in the world, there is a huge variety of products you can buy from Wayfair.

In fact, they have over 14 million products in their catalog!

Here is an overview of the type of furniture you can get from Wayfair:

  • Living room furniture such as sofas, accent chairs, consoles, TV stands, coffee tables
  • Bedroom furniture such as beds, dressers, nightstands, mattresses
  • Kitchen and dining room furniture such as dining tables and chairs, kitchen islands, sideboards, and buffet
  • Office furniture such as desks, office chairs, filing cabinets
  • Outdoor and patio furniture such as lounge chairs, gazebos, and even trampolines
  • Home and wall decor items such as wall art, frames, mirrors, accent pieces
  • Appliances such as ice makers, fridges, coffee makers
  • Pet accessories such as dog crates and litter boxes

And these are just the tip of the iceberg!

Is Wayfair furniture good quality?

Wayfair furniture is a great option if you’re looking for affordable furniture. The company has been in business for almost 20 years, and it’s one of the most popular online retailers for home goods.

If you’re wondering whether or not Wayfair furniture is of good quality, we can say with confidence that it is!

We’ve personally purchased a number of items from Wayfair over the years and have been very impressed by their products.

To give you an idea of what we mean by “good quality,” here are some of the items we have gotten from Wayfair:

1. Avani Velvet Rolled Arm Chesterfield Sofa – This sofa has a classic style that will never go out of style, and it comes in three different colors so you can find one that fits your home perfectly! It has a frame made of solid and engineered wood, but the main selling point is its comfort. The plush velvet is super comfy to sit in and the foam cushions are firm enough to give good support. We got it at a sale for only less than $600!

2. Outsunny Fabric Patio Folding Chair – This chair is perfect for reading or watching TV in comfort! We actually use them outdoors but they are great backups when we get more guests than usual. It folds up easily so you can store it when not in use, super useful when you need to clear the deck for more space. If memory serves me right, we managed to snag a set of 4 for only $220.

3. Boden Gel Fiber Firm Support Pillow – These pillows might look simple at first glance, but they’re actually made from durable 100% Hypoallergenic Polyester Gel that will last through many years of use. After 3 years of usage, they look as good as new and the support is still there. When you consider the price (less than $100 for a set of 4), this is a real bargain!

To be fair, there are some duds on Wayfair though, as evidenced by some reviews left by customers.

The thing to note is that Wayfair is a platform for suppliers to sell their furniture, and these can come from all across the world.

While the Wayfair team tries to ensure the highest quality products, it is still possible for some to fall through the cracks.

This is a risk that all online shoppers have to take, not just at Wayfair, but pretty much any other online retailer.

The good thing is that they have a generous 30 days return policy which I will discuss more in the section below.

A few of my favorite pieces on Wayfair

Why is Wayfair so cheap?

I think cheap is relative. Some might still find the prices to be high, but if you were to look around and compare with similar products, you will see that Wayfair gives you value for money.

As a fully online retailer, they are able to save massively on rental costs, which get passed on to consumers like you and me.

There is no need to hire salespeople to work in boutiques and stores, instead relying on the good old telephone (Contact number: 844-932-0183) to provide quality service and advice to shoppers before they purchase anything.

And since they are frequented by over 4 million active shoppers each month, this translates to economies of scale for the suppliers, further reducing the prices you find on Wayfair.

I always love a good bargain, which is why I sign up to their mailing list to get informed of an upcoming sale or possibly get my hands on clearance items.

And don’t forget to always check their closeout section too for more great deals!

It’s a great way to save a ton!

Is Wayfair a good place to buy furniture?

I’m not sure about people’s definition of a good place to buy furniture, but I think that Wayfair is more than competent to provide a solid solution.

In terms of variety, there are thousands and thousands of products to choose from, covering every nook and cranny of most homes.

Besides that, the range of styles to choose from is also very impressive. You can easily find most of the popular interior decor styles here, such as industrial, midcentury modern, Scandinavian, French country, farmhouse, modern, and much more.

I have also done a number of reviews on their in house brands which you can read here:

Does Wayfair sell West Elm furniture?

No, Wayfair does not sell West Elm furniture as they are 2 companies with different operating models.

West Elm is a brand itself, while Wayfair is a platform where furniture suppliers offer their products.

I should also point out that Wayfair has in recent years launched several of its own brands though (see above section), and in fact, has one that is comparable to West Elm in terms of design: Greyleigh.

Does Wayfair have good patio furniture? Is Wayfair outdoor furniture good quality?

Wayfair is a great place to find patio furniture. You can choose from a variety of styles, materials, and colors. And if you’re looking for something specific, like a patio set with an umbrella or a hammock, then you’ll be able to find that too.

The best thing about Wayfair is the price—their patio furniture is incredibly affordable.

For example, they have some sets that start at just $100!

This means that no matter what kind of budget you have or what type of patio set you’re looking for, there will be something on Wayfair that fits your needs.

If you want to make sure that the furniture is going to last for years, then you could consider investing in metal frames instead of wood ones because metal lasts longer than wood does in outdoor environments like patios or porches where moisture can damage them over time.

It’s also important that you look at customer reviews before making any purchases because they give valuable insight into what other people think about each item so that way you know exactly what kind of quality it has before making any purchases yourself!

Is Wayfair furniture made in China?

Wayfair does not release information about the location of its products, and it is probably unfeasible to do so.

They have millions of them coming from all over the world, so you should assume that some of them are actually made in China.

As I talked about it earlier, Wayfair is very much a platform to allow furniture manufacturers to sell their products, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise if some of them were from China.

That said, there are brands such as the ones Wayfair owns (see above list) that have products made in the United States.

If this is a major concern to you, Wayfair might not be the best place to shop.

An alternative I can recommend for sofas is Apt2B.

Does Wayfair let you keep damaged furniture?

No, they do not. You should let the delivery team know about the damaged furniture immediately if you spot it.

Otherwise, you should contact the customer service department where they will arrange for a replacement part or send a new piece if a replacement is not available.

I have read elsewhere that Wayfair actually allows you to keep the damaged furniture, but this is unverified.

Does Wayfair deliver and assemble furniture? Does furniture from Wayfair come assembled?

Yes, Wayfair does provide delivery and assembly of furniture, but there are a few conditions to them.

Firstly, Wayfair delivers throughout the United States, except to PO Boxes or Military APOs. Additional fees or shipping restrictions may apply if you live in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Free shipping is granted for purchases above $35, while a small $4.99 fee is applicable for orders below that minimum.

As for assembly, you should keep a lookout for the product descriptions.

Not every product (even larger ones) requires assembly, but if they do, you can either choose to assemble them yourself or opt for expert assembly.

This service is provided by a third party, Handy.com, which is a platform where you can hire expert help.

How long does it take to get furniture from Wayfair?

Shipping times differ from product to product, and this information is available in your cart when you check out.

On some of the items, you may also see the estimated shipping times.

There are also options for express shipping which lets you receive your items in 1 day, while some large items (more than 150lbs) can take up to 1 to 3 weeks to arrive at your doorstep.

Does Wayfair have office furniture?

  • Filing cabinets

Does Wayfair furniture have stores?

This might come as a surprise to some as most of us associate Wayfair with online shopping, but they actually used to have a physical store in Natick, Massachusetts, near their Boston headquarters. However, the store has closed since the end of 2020.

I’m guessing that is just an experiment by them to test out the feasibility of physical shops, but it did not pan out as well as they hoped.

Is Ashley Furniture better than Wayfair?

Having owned furniture from both retailers, my opinion is that Wayfair is mostly superior to Ashley furniture.

Although Ashley furniture has an advantage when it comes to physical locations, I personally think that furniture from Wayfair is generally higher in quality, durability, and more value for money.

You of course need to sift through the hundreds of suppliers on Wayfair, but once you have identified and found one you can depend on, there is really no comparison.

In most cases, you will find that Wayfair product uses better materials such as solid wood, while you will tend to find more MDF wood on their products.

I do think the answer to this is subjective, so my advice would be to read and understand the product descriptions carefully and always be sure to check reviews on each individual product.

I have written an Ashely furniture review which you can consider checking out too.

Does Wayfair furniture have warranty?

Not every single product has a warranty, so you should read under the specifications section in an individual product to find out more.

In general, what I have experienced is that the products come with a one-year manufacturer’s warranty which covers against manufacturing defects.

If you want to have better ease of mind, you can opt for a protection plan for an additional fee, which is basically furniture insurance.

Here’s what’s covered:

  • Accident & malfunction coverage (stains, chips, etc.)
  • Fast repairs & zero deductibles
  • Coverage for other malfunctions (like broken hardware and seam separation)
  • Fast replacements with free shipping
  • 24/7 customer support and easy online claims

Is it worth it? It really depends on you. I have had many pieces of furniture from Wayfair but I have not once needed to activate any warranty and I have not paid for any protection plan.

Wayfair furniture review conclusion: Should you shop at Wayfair?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that Wayfair is perfect, and they certainly have shortcomings.

You of course do not get to touch and feel the products before buying, and sometimes, just looking at photos does not do it for you.

Now and then, you might get a shipping delay or the item arrives damaged, and sometimes you will have to assemble them yourself.

The thing is, these issues are not isolated to Wayfair alone, as this can be said of all online retailers.

I enjoy shopping at Wayfair because of my experiences, which have been very positive all this time.

The shipping is generally very quick, and you do not have to pay to return a purchase you don’t like.

These are my reasons for continuing to shop at Wayfair, and I hope I have managed to share as much information as you need to get started!
